The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum is now accepting nominations for its Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity for those who want to be involved in setting the organization’s strategic direction and overseeing its work on behalf of Canada’s apprenticeship community.

Eligibility Criteria

Individuals who submit their nominations must meet the following criteria:

1. Pursuant to Section 126 of the Corporations Act, each Director shall be an individual who:

    • Is at least 18 years of age;
    • has not been found by a court in Canada or elsewhere to be mentally incompetent;
    • does not have the status of a bankrupt; and
    • is in full agreement with the governing documents of the Corporation;

2. Be nominated by their member organization or another member in the same constituency group. In accordance with CAF-FCA Bylaw Article 8 Section 8.1 for the purpose of nominating the Directors, the Class A Members shall be divided into the following five (5) Constituency Groups: Employer, Labour, Jurisdiction, Education, Equity. Therefore, only members from these constituency groups are eligible for a Board seat;

3.Have a current and direct relationship to a member organization that is in good standing at the Champion, Patron or Supporter level;

4. Have received the approval, in writing, from the individual listed in the CAF-FCA member database as the lead contact;

5. Have the financial means and ability to travel and attend at least 2 in person meetings of the Board of Directors during each year of their tenure;

6. Maintain the CAF-FCA membership throughout the term on the Board;

7. Be in full agreement and acceptance of the rules governing conflicts of interest and have a general understanding of Board governance;

8. Complete the Director Skills Matrix included in the application;

9. Have read and understand the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum Inclusivity Guide for participation in CAF activities that including serving on the Board;

10. Submit a resume/CV and covering letter.

Nominations must be received no later than Thursday September 3, 2026, 11:59 pm EDT.  CAF-FCA is accepting nominations of representatives from member organizations for the following positions:

  • Jurisdiction -one 4 year term
  • Employer – one 4 year term
  • Labour – one 4 year term
  • Education – one 4 year term
  • Equity -one 4 year term

Director positions are for a period of four (4) years, beginning at the time of affirmation at the 2026 Annual General Meeting of CAF-FCA Members.

Definitions of Eligible Constituency Groups for 2026 Election

Jurisdiction:
A jurisdiction is defined as a provincial or territorial authority with enshrined regulatory responsibility for apprenticeship. This constituent group has indicated a preference for balanced regional representation where possible.

Employer:
An employer is defined as a private or public sector organization that hires and trains apprentices for the purposes of its own enterprise and engages apprentices as paid employees. This constituent group has indicated a preference for balanced representation among construction, motive power, industrial and service sectors.

Labour:
A labour organization is defined as one whose primary purpose is the ongoing best interest of skilled trades employees, including the provision of fair wages, apprenticeship training and excellent work conditions. This constituent group has indicated a preference for balanced representation among building trades, industrial and public sector unions.

Education:
An educational institution is defined as an institution providing apprenticeship training where training leads to certification in Red Seal and/or designated trades recognized by the jurisdiction in which it operates. This constituent group has indicated a preference for balanced regional representation.

Equity:
An equity organization is defined as one whose primary purpose is the advancement and/or
training of individuals under-represented in the trades.

The Nomination Approval Process

The Nomination Committee of the CAF-FCA Board of Directors reviews nomination applications. The committee has the authority to approve or decline applications. Approved nomination applications are entered into the member elections of the Board of Directors. The election is conducted electronically in September. Successful election candidates are identified by the number of votes received and acclaimed by the membership at the AGM of that year.
