You Can Impact Change
An industry-led National Task Force to Support Women in the Trades set the goal of increasing the number of women participating in trades.
Currently, women make up less than 5 per cent of the apprentice population in trades such as carpentry, electrical and automotive service. By 2030, the goal of the strategy is that 15 per cent of women apprentices and journeypersons will work on skilled trades projects in multiple trades, sectors and regions.
Working towards this target will require the collective action of all apprenticeship stakeholders, including employers, labour representatives, educators, provincial/territorial apprenticeship administrations and equity groups.
We are asking stakeholders commit to specific actions in order for us to meet our goal.
