National Apprenticeship Award: Inclusion and Diversity Champion

The National Apprenticeship Award: Inclusion and Diversity Champion recognizes an individual from a CAF-FCA member organization who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) within apprenticeship and the skilled trades.

The recipient will receive a complimentary delegate registration to the Supporting Equity in Trades Conference, taking place June 5–7, 2027, in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Eligibility

Individuals from CAF-FCA member organizations in good standing may self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague, employer, or industry partner.

Nominees must demonstrate a commitment to creating more inclusive pathways into apprenticeship and skilled trades careers for individuals from equity-priority and under-represented groups.

Award Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate leadership through one or more of the following:

  • Advocacy for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in apprenticeship and the skilled trades
  • Promotion of apprenticeship training and skilled trades careers among under-represented groups, including women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, newcomers, racialized individuals, and other equity-priority populations
  • Active participation in local, regional, or national initiatives that support inclusive apprenticeship systems and workplaces
  • Meaningful contributions that have improved access, participation, retention, or success for equity-priority groups in apprenticeship

Recognition

The 2026 Inclusion and Diversity Champion will be recognized during the 2027 Supporting Equity in Trades Conference by the Chair of the CAF-FCA Board of Directors.

The recipient will receive:

  • Complimentary registration to the 2027 Supporting Equity in Trades Conference
  • A commemorative award plaque
  • Recognition through CAF-FCA’s national communications channels, including social media, website, and newsletter features

Selection Process

Nominations will be reviewed by a CAF-FCA Standing Committee, which will make a recommendation to the CAF-FCA Board of Directors for approval.
