The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF-FCA) has published a first of its kind, National Strategy for Supporting Women in Trades. In 2019, CAF-FCA led a task force of more than 60 skilled trades stakeholders to guide and inform a strategy to create measurable change for women’s representation in skilled trades careers in Canada. The industry driven strategy has four clear and measurable action items that are intended to generate awareness, trigger policy change, recognize best practices and create skilled trade workplace environments where women’s representation increases.

CAF-FCA’s national Supporting Women in Trades campaign is underway and receiving positive attention and buy-in. Built by the apprenticeship and skilled trades community, the campaign is comprised of four tangible and measurable action items, a 10-year quantitative goal, and an employer pledge. Visit switcanada.ca to see which Canadian employers have taken the pledge and agreed to share the number of women they hire and train.
