Health & Safety Awareness Session: Preparing Young Workers for Safe Entry into the Workforce
Young and new workers face significantly higher rates of workplace injury during their first months on the job — often because they don’t yet know what hazards to look for or what protections they’re entitled to. This interactive awareness session, delivered by Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS), equips students and youth with the foundational knowledge they need before starting a part-time job, co-op placement, summer internship, apprenticeship program or volunteer role.
Using games, videos and group discussion, participants will learn to identify common workplace hazards, understand their health and safety rights and responsibilities (and those of employers), and build the confidence to speak up if something doesn’t feel safe.
Who should attend:
Teachers, career and co-op educators, youth employment practitioners, community organizations supporting young workers, parents/guardians, and students preparing for work-based learning or entry-level jobs.
